Student retreat 2017

The third annual retreat of the PhD candidates in the Leibniz ScienceCampus is hosted jointly with the DFG Research Training Group 2070 “Understanding Social Relationships” at the University of Göttingen, and will take place from October 24 to 26, 2017 in the Akademie Waldschlösschen, 13 km south of Göttingen. The retreat fosters the exchange between the PhD candidates in a relaxed and private atmosphere. During three days the participants will discuss their own research projects and meet with guest speakers and workshop trainers in order to discuss scientific relevant topics and to develop fundamental skills useful for their future career.

The retreat will start with two poster sessions, during which PhD candidates will have the opportunity to present their ongoing research and catch up with what other candidates are working on. This will be followed by a workshop, lasting until the end of the second day. The trainers Valeska Russo and Lina Yassin will advise the participants on how to manage their projects, how to find motivation and deal with procrastination and fear of failure. On the last day, Jacinta Beehner (University of Michigan and current guest researcher of the DFG Research Training Group) will provide insight into the publishing and reviewing process. After an introductory talk, the participants will have the opportunity to for in-depth exchange during a discussion round.
